MY MISSION FOR HAYS
The primary objective of every District Attorney is to pursue justice. To achieve this goal, my DA's office will no longer operate as if it is beholden to law enforcement. We will protect the rule of law. We will reeducate law enforcement and civilians alike on what is legal and illegal. All while holding each accountable for their actions. It is vital that our commitment to fairness underpins every action and decision, this will foster trust and integrity for our community. There will no longer be an us vs them mentality between our law enforcement and our law abiding citizens. We will reach a point of Hays vs those who seek to do us harm.
Justice is a multifaceted concept, viewed differently by each individual in the legal field. In my perspective, true justice serves essential purposes: firstly, to restore the community to a safe and thriving balance, and secondly, to ensure that those involved do not find themselves entangled in the justice system again, weather it be the victim or the defendant. While a crime-free community might be an unachievable dream, it is crucial that we continue to strive towards it. Together, we can work towards creating a safer and more just society for all.
People- Not Numbers
Justice isn’t about conviction numbers. Every case deserves honest judgment not rushed or one-size-fits-all punishment.

Solutions Beyond the Courtroom
With experience building drug and DWI courts, Alfonso understands how mental health, addiction & poverty drive crime. Courts can offer mentoring & guidance when it works and accountability when it doesn’t.
Actual Help For The Legally Incompetent
Currently Hays County is perfecting a "mental health" court. This court can only help those that have mental health issues but can still be functioning members of our community and essentially complete a style of probation.
Those in our community so ill they reach the level of been deemed legally incompetent waste away suffering in our jails. Waiting months if not years for any kind of real treatment.
Support For The
Unhoused
Living on the street or in between shelters should not be treated as criminal offense in our community. These types of calls waste the jails time and then the DA's office resources prosecuting trespass charges. We need to work hand in hand with Hays County government offices at large to find solutions to get these individuals the help they need. Whether that be jobs, mental health or drug and alcohol treatment.
Conviction
Integrity Unit
Innocent people should not suffer in prison because of the hubris of previous generations of politicians. The District Attorney's Office is fully aware that previous law enforcement and previous prosecutors may have made mistakes. Sadly some may have done things intentionally outside of the law to get their convictions. I will seek funding for a fully staffed department to ensure justice was done. This will be the first step for law enforcement and the DA's to regain the trust of the community.
